2025

Park Loop Trail 2A & Aquatic Park Trail Connection

Plans for two new trail segments were finalized in November of 2023, and the construction contract was awarded in early 2024. Construction wrapped up in early 2025. The Park Loop Trail 2A begins at North Colony Blvd., following the Oncor electrical easement north, extending to Squires Drive, providing neighborhood access along the trail. Additionally, the Aquatic Park Connection portion of the trail was upgraded from the existing 4-foot wide sidewalk from Fire Station 2 along the front of the Aquatic Park to Taylor St., transforming it into a 10-foot wide shared-use trail. 

2022

Underpass Trail Lighting on the Cascade - Grandscape Trail

There was no direct power source to illuminate the trail under the 121 overpass connecting the Cascade - Grandscape Trail. Solar panels located outside of the overpass were installed and lights are wired to the battery storage for those panels, creating a unique solution to bring power in for lights.

2014

Keith Helms Memorial Sundial

2009

Interpretive Signs on Shoreline Trail 

Interpretive sign titled "The Wildlife" located along the Shoreline Trail, highlighting animals found in the area. The sign is divided into sections: "On the Land, In the Water and Up in the Sky." It features images and descriptions of local mammals such as bobcats, armadillos, raccoons, and beavers, as well as various bird species including cardinals, hawks, herons, egrets, ducks, and woodpeckers. The sign provides educational information on permanent and migratory wildlife common to Texas and The Colony area, illustrated with multiple color photographs of the animals mentioned.


 

 

Interpretive sign titled "Native Texan: Bountiful Blackland Prairie," located along the Shoreline Trail. The sign educates visitors about the unique ecosystem of the Blackland Prairie, highlighting its geography, soil composition, native plants, and animal species. It includes a map of Texas showing the Blackland Prairie region and surrounding ecological zones. Color photographs depict native wildflowers, prairie landscapes, a hawk in flight, and small prairie animals. The text discusses how the rich soil once supported tallgrass prairie and diverse wildlife, much of which has been lost to agriculture and development, making this one of the most endangered ecosystems in North America.

2008

Historical Bridge at Greenway park

Historic metal truss bridge at Greenway Park, repurposed for pedestrian use. The rust-colored bridge spans a dry creek bed and is supported by concrete piers. It features a wooden deck and railing, with a distinctive triangular truss design. The bridge is a preserved structure reflecting early 20th-century engineering and serves as a functional and aesthetic element of the park's trail system. Leafless trees and dry grass indicate a winter season, with clear blue skies overhead.

2007

Bronze Sculptures at Five Star

Bronze sculptures at Five Star Complex depicting children playing. The statues show lifelike figures of kids engaged in joyful outdoor activities, with one child poised to kick a soccer ball.
